Both gas and electric clothes dryers pass a lot of lint into the venting system. As the lint builds up it causes the dryer to work less efficiently.  A blocked vent, on gas dryers, can also cause poisness carbon monoxide fumes to back up into the house. This delay of air flow can cause the dryer to overheat, with the potential for igniting the lint within the dryer, starting a fire.

Many dryer vents are not installed correctly or installed with the correct material. All dryer vents should vent outside the home. Not into the crawl space!!! Vinyl and corrugated vent tubes are not to be used as dryer venting materials. Smooth metal duct pipe installed with out nails or screws meets current building and fire safety codes. Check the label on the back of the dryer. It will specify the correct venting material.
